Ζωντανεύοντας την καθημερινότητα μιας αρχαίας πόλης / Unravelling everyday life of an ancient city

Ένα σημαντικό εύρημα έφεραν στο φως αρχαιολόγοι που εργάζονται στην ανασκαφή του θεάτρου της αρχαίας πόλης των Μύρων. Κάτω από το ρωμαϊκό θέατρο εντόπισαν κτίσματα κι ένα μικρότερο θέατρο της ελληνιστικής περιόδου. Στο ίδιο στρώμα της ανασκαφής βρέθηκε μεγάλος αριθμός αγαλματιδίων θεοτήτων, ανδρών, γυναικών, ζώων αλλά και χάλκινα και αργυρά αντικείμενα. Πολλά από τα αγαλματίδια διασώζουν ίχνη χρώματος και μας δίνουν πληροφορίες για τα ενδύματα της εποχής εκείνης. Επιπλέον απεικονίζουν σκηνές της καθημερινότητας των κατοίκων της πόλης κατά 2ο και 1ο αι. π.Χ.:

Όπως κι αλλού στον αρχαίο κόσμο έτσι κι εκεί υπάρχουν σαφώς καθορισμένοι ρόλοι ανδρών και γυναικών κι οποιαδήποτε απόκλιση των γυναικών από τον αναμενόμενο ρόλο της μητέρας και συζύγου αντιμετωπίζεται με καχυποψία:

Damnatio memoriae στα ρωμαϊκά νομίσματα / Damnatio memoriae on Roman coins

 Η damnatio memoriae ήταν μία από τις τιμωρίες που περίμενε όποιους η συλλογική μνήμη θεωρούσε ότι έπρεπε να ξεχάσει. Αυτοκράτορες, άρχοντες, επιφανή μέλη των τοπικών κοινωνιών αλλά και ήρωες αφηγήσεων και πρόσωπα της θρησκευτικής ιστορίας υφίστανται την επιβολή της σιωπής και αμαύρωσης της μνήμης τους. Οι στρατηγικές της damnatio memoriae είναι πολλές στον αρχαίο κόσμο, όμως ανάμεσά τους πολύ συνηθισμένη είναι η απόσβεση του ονόματος σε επιγραφές ή η απότμηση των προτομών τους κι η αντικατάσταση από άλλων σε αγάλματα του δημόσιου χώρου.
