Το Σπήλαιο 12 του Κουμράν / Qumran Cave 12

Τις δύο τελευταίες εβδομάδες η είδηση που κυριαρχεί στα βιβλικά ιστολόγια και σε άρθρα στο ίντερνετ είναι εκείνης της ανακάλυψης ενός 12ου σπηλαίου στην περιοχή του Κουμράν, το οποίο εικάζεται ότι περιείχε επίσης χειρόγραφα που σήμερα έχουν χαθεί. Η ανακάλυψη έγινε στο πλαίσιο των ανασκαφών στην περιοχή αρχαιολογικής ομάδας του Εβραϊκού Πανεπιστημίου και του Πανεπιστημίου Liberty (Virgina, ΗΠΑ) υπό την αιγίδα της Αρχαιολογικής Επιτροπής του Ισραήλ. Σε κόγχες στους τοίχους και σε ένα βαθύ τούνελ στο πίσω μέρος του σπηλαίου βρέθηκαν αγγεία σπασμένα των οποίων το περιεχόμενο φαίνεται να είχε αφαιρεθεί. Δύο αξίνες που βρέθηκαν και οι οποίες τοποθετούνται γύρω στα 1950 σύμφωνα με τα δημοσιεύματα φαίνεται να επιβεβαιώνουν την υποψία της αρχαιοκαπηλίας. Σε ένα από τα αγγεία βρέθηκε κομμάτι περγαμηνής, το οποίο ακόμη δεν είχε χρησιμοποιηθεί (βλ. φωτο) καθώς και κομμάτια υφάσματος και κορδόνια για το τύλιγμα των χειρογράφων. Οι ειδικοί προτείνουν το συγκεκριμένο σπήλαιο να χαρακτηριστεί ως το 12ο στη σειρά αν και δεν βρέθηκαν χειρόγραφα. Τέλος, το σπήλαιο ήταν σε χρήση και κατά τη νεολιθική εποχή και διάφορα ευρήματα μπορούν να χρονολογηθούν τότε (μύτες βελών, σφραγίδα κ.ά.). 

Η ανακάλυψη έχει προκαλέσει ενθουσιασμό αλλά και πολλά ερωτήματα όπως, για παράδειγμα, πού μπορεί να βρίσκονται τώρα τα χειρόγραφα που πιθανόν αφαιρέθηκαν από το σπήλαιο ή ποια μπορεί να είναι η σχέση τους με τα χειρόγραφα του Σπηλαίου 1 (τα οποία επίσης βρέθηκαν μέσα σε αγγεία), βλ. τις παρατηρήσεις στο σχετικό δημοσίευμα του Jim Davila (PaleoJudaica)
