Φωτογραφία της ημέρας: Σημειώνοντας την αλλαγή των εποχών; / Photo of the day: Marking the passage of seasons

Ένα ενδιαφέρον εύρημα στην κοιλάδα Jezreel ίσως δηλώνει το πέρασμα των εποχών και συνδέεται με σχετικές τελετουργίες σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του PLoS ONE που αναδημοσιεύουν οι Times of Israel. Πρόκειται για μικρά βότσαλα από ασβεστόλιθο τα οποία φέρουν χαραγμένα διάφορα σχέδια και σύμφωνα με τις εκτιμήσεις των ειδικών έχουν ηλικία 23.000 έως 16.500 χρόνων και τα οποία βρέθηκαν κατά τις ανασκαφές του 2012-2013. Το πιο ενδιαφέρον ανάμεσά τους είναι εκείνο που φέρει την παράσταση φαλακρής ίβιδος, ένα πουλί που σήμερα απειλείται με εξαφάνιση. Στην πίσω πλευρά το βότσαλο φέρει χαραγμένες γραμμές που σχηματίζουν γεωμετρικά σχήματα. Οι αρχαιολόγοι συνδέουν το εύρημα με τις εγκαταστάσεις στο Ein Qashish και το συνδέουν με τελετουργίες που πιθανόν να συνδέονται με το πέρασμα των εποχών. Ίσως το συγκεκριμένο πτηνό να ήταν ένα σημάδι της αλλαγής των εποχών και να συνδεόταν με τις σχετικές τελετουργίες.

Ένα vomitorium του αμφιθεάτρου της Trier. Τα vomitoria ήταν οι έξοδοι σε αμφιθέατρα και στάδια, από όπου οι θεατές μπορούσαν γρήγορα να εξέλθουν. Δεν έχουν, επομένως, καμιά σχέση με το μύθο ότι ήταν χώροι όπου οι Ρωμαίοι μπορούσαν να αδειάσουν το στομάχι τους από το φαγητό προκειμένου να συνεχίσουν το δείπνο.
