Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του BBC (μέσω του ιστολογίου Evangelical Textual Criticism) ανακαλύφθηκε στην πόλη Linares της Ισπανίας ένα υάλινο πιάτο με παράσταση αγένειου Ιησού Χριστού, ο οποίος κρατά τον σταυρό και κώδικα. Οι δύο μορφές δεξιά και αριστερά του είναι πιθανόν άγγελοι και κρατούν ειλητάρια. Οι αρχαιολόγοι χρονολογούν το εύρημα στον 4ο αι. μ.Χ. Αν αυτή η χρονολόγηση είναι ακριβής, τότε πρόκειται για μια από τις αρχαιότερες παραστάσεις του Ιησού.

The New Testament text has a long and varied history, in which readers, scholars and editors all play a part. Understanding the ways in which these users engage with the text, including the physical form in which they encounter the Bible, its role in liturgy, the creation of scholarly apparatus and commentary, types of quotation and allusion, and creative rewriting in different languages or genres, offers insight into its tradition and dissemination.
The ten papers in this volume present original research focusing on primary material in a variety of fields and languages. Their scope stretches from the evidence in the gospels for ‘ministers of the word’, and the sources used by the evangelists, to the complex history and politics of a twentieth-century critical edition. Key third- and fourth-century figures are assessed, including Origen, Eusebius of Caesarea and Augustine, as well as an anonymous commentary on Paul used by Pelagius and only preserved in a single ninth-century manuscript. Traces of a pre-Vulgate Latin version are detected in the poetry of Sedulius, while early translations in general are explored as a way of shedding light on the initial reception of the gospels. One of the earliest scholarly ‘editions’ of the gospels, underlying the manuscripts known as Family 1, is examined in Mark.
The contributors were all participants in the eighth Birmingham Colloquium on the Textual Criticism of the New Testament, an international gathering of established and emerging scholars whose work reflects the excitement and diversity of New Testament textual scholarship today.

The relation between Paul and Judaism is in the course of being re-examined. The traditional interpretation of Paul’s letters, which identified a rupture between him and Israel and its national codes has been replaced, for a generation now, by a different way to consider the relations between Paul and the Jewish-biblical faith and traditions. To put it briefly, Paul as a renegade and traitor of Israel has been replaced by the « Rabbi of Tarsus » (Lapide) or the « good Jew » (Nanos). We owe this paradigm-shift in particular to the exegetical current called the New Perspective on Paul – a paradigm which is not without blinkers and blind spots : for instance, what do we make of the anti-Paulinism that broke out in his lifetime in the churches of Judea, blaming the apostle for teaching « apostasy from Moses » (Acts 21.21) ? – a history which should not be eclipsed by those who wish to discover in all their complexity the social identities which are constructed by Paul’s writings.

Ο Michael L. Satlow (Brown University) στο σύντομο άρθρο του που δημοσιεύει στη σελίδα The Bible and Interpretation αμφισβητεί την παραδοσιακή θέση της καταγωγής του Παύλου από την Ταρσό και στηριζόμενος μόνο στις μαρτυρίες των γνήσιων επιστολών του αποστόλου υποστηρίζει ότι ο Παύλος ανήκε σε οικογένεια ανώτερης τάξης στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Οπωσδήποτε κανείς έχει να αντιτείνει πολλά στην προτεινόμενη θέση του Satlow, σε κάθε όμως περίπτωση η θέση του είναι ενδιαφέρουσα και προκαλεί σκέψεις:
