Ο τόμος προσφέρει μία καλή επισκόπηση όλων των κύριων τάσεων και της προόδου που έχει γίνει στη σύγχρονη βιβλική έρευνα σχετικά με το μασωριτικό κείμενο, την εβραϊκή φιλολογία, την κριτική του κειμένου, τη φιλολογική κριτική (ιδιαίτερα των προφητικών βιβλίων), του αρχαίου Ιουδαϊσμού, του σχηματισμού των συλλογών των αρχαίων Γραφών και βιβλικών θεμάτων (κυρίως από την οπτική της ορθόδοξης παράδοσης).
