Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα της Haaretz αρχαιολόγοι που εργάζονται στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο του e-Tell το οποίο θεωρείται από ορισμένους ερευνητές ως η Βηθσαϊδά της Καινής Διαθήκης, εντόπισαν ένα ενδιαφέρον εύρημα ηλικίας 3.000 χρόνων. Πρόκειται για μία στήλη από βασάλτη με ανάγλυφη παράσταση μίας μεσοποταμιακής σεληνιακής θεότητας (φωτο) την οποία οι κάτοικοι της πόλης έκρυψαν σε κάποια επιδρομή κατά την αρχαιότητα:

Το βιβλίο αυτό ασχολείται με το θέμα του κακού στο βαβυλωνιακό, ασσυριακό και χαναανιτικό πολιτισμό. Στα μεσοποταμιακά κείμενα που συζητά ο συγγραφέας καθίσταται σαφές ότι το άτομο που προσεύχεται έχει τη συνείδηση ότι ο Θεός ενεργεί πάντα μέσα του, ακόμη και στις στιγμές δοκιμασίας. Τα ίδια κείμενα κάνουν λόγο για το έλεος και την πιστότητα, σαφή σημάδια της διαθήκης του Θεού με τον άνθρωπο, "το έργον των χειρών σου", όπως λέγεται στους Ψαλμούς, ή τον "υιό του Θεού", όπως ονομάζεται σε κείμενα της Μεσοποταμίας. Η θέση του συγγραφέα είναι ότι στα κείμενα αυτά έντονη είναι η πεποίθηση ότι ο άνθρωπος δεν είναι μόνος του, όταν πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσει το κακό, συνοδεύεται και στηρίζεται από το εύσπλαχνο χέρι του Θεού. Τα κείμενα παρουσιάζονται με μία διαβάθμιση με σκοπό να οδηγήσει τον αναγνώστη σε μία βαθμιαία κατανόηση του κόσμου της μεσοποταμιακής θρησκευτικότητας στην οποία κυριαρχούν τα χαρακτηριστικά της διαμεσολάβησης, προσευχής και μαρτυρίας.
