Ειδική μνεία γίνεται στην παράσταση της Κιβωτού του Νώε (φωτο) σε νομίσματα της Απάμειας κατά τον 2ο/3ο αι. μ.Χ., όταν Ιουδαίοι κατέλαβαν αξιώματα στην τοπική αυτοδιοίκηση. Η παράσταση της Κιβωτού ως ενός κιβωτίου συμφωνεί με την ελληνική απόδοση στη μετάφραση των Ο΄ της λέξης tebah, την οποία χρησιμοποιούσε το εβραϊκό για να περιγράψει το σκάφος του Νώε και της οικογένειάς του:

Annual John William Wevers Prize in Septuagint Studies

The International Organization for Septuagint and Cognate Studies (IOSCS) offers an annual prize of $350 to be awarded to an outstanding paper in the field of Septuagint studies. The prize has been named in memory of John William Wevers to honor his many contributions to Septuagint studies.

The field of Septuagint studies is construed broadly, and a paper may focus on any aspect of the study of the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures.  The IOSCS wants to encourage the study of these translations by younger scholars, and eligibility is thus limited to advanced graduate students or recent Ph.D. recipients (4 years or less after receiving the degree).

The papers will be judged by a committee of IOSCS members, with the expectation that the winning paper be published in the Journal of Septuagint and Cognate Studies (JSCS).

The deadline for submitting papers for the current year is August 15. Papers should be sent electronically to Dr. Karen Jobes: ( karen.jobes@wheaton.edu ).

Το φιλολογικό είδος και το ακροατήριο των ευαγγελίων / The gospels' genre and audience

Στην ιστοσελίδα The Bible and Interpretation έχει αναρτηθεί ένα σύντομο κείμενο του Justin Marc Smith σχετικά με το φιλολογικό είδος των ευαγγελίων και τη σημασία που έχει ο καθορισμός του είδους για τον εντοπισμό του ακροατηρίου των ευαγγελίων. Ο Smith υιοθετεί την θέση του Richard Burridge ότι τα ευαγγέλια υπάγονται στο φιλολογικό είδος των βίων και προτείνει μία νέα τυπολογία όσον αφορά στο ακροατήριό τους: α) μη σύγχρονος εστιασμένος, β) μη σύγχρονος ανοικτός, γ) σύγχρονος εστιασμένος και δ) σύγχρονος ανοικτός. Ο Smith θεωρεί ότι τα ευαγγέλια ανήκουν στον τελευταίο τύπο, όπου, πρώτον, ο συγγραφέας ανήκει στους αυτόπτες μάρτυρες ή έχει μία προσωπική σχέση με τον Ιησού κι όσους τον έζησαν και, δεύτερον, το ακροατήριό του δεν είναι σαφώς οριζόμενο:

[Α.Τ.: τα όσα λέει ο Smith δημιουργούν αναμφισβήτητα έναν προβληματισμό όσον αφορά τόσο στο φιλολογικό είδος των ευαγγελίων όσο κυρίως για το ακροατήριο στο οποίο απευθύνονται. Βέβαια κάποια από τα συμπεράσματά του θα πρέπει να συζητηθούν περισσότερο, γιατί γεννιούνται κάποια ερωτήματα: α) πόσο άμεση είναι η σχέση του ευαγγελιστή με τους αυτόπτες μάρτυρες; β) ποιος ο ρόλος της εκκλησιαστικής κοινότητας ως ο τόπος διατήρησης της παράδοσης για τον Ιησού και ως πηγής του ευαγγελιστή; γ) πόσο ανοικτό μπορεί να είναι το ακροατήριο των ευαγγελίων, ποια στοιχεία στα κείμενα το αποδεικνύουν;]

Τα θαύματα στη συνοπτική παράδοση (X): η σημασία τους στο κατά Λουκάν / Miracles in the synoptic tradition (X): their significance in Luke's Gospel

Ο Λουκάς εκδηλώνει ένα ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για τα θαύματα και διασώζει  μάλιστα σχετικό υλικό που δε μαρτυρείται στους άλλους συνοπτικούς (5,1-11· 7,11-17· 13,10-17· 14,1-6· 17,11-19 κι ένα summarium 8,1-3). Επιπλέον, στις Πράξεις των Αποστόλων γίνεται συχνά αναφορά στα θαύματα του Ιησού κι οι απόστολοι παρουσιάζονται να συνεχίζουν το θαυματουργικό έργο του. Από τον άλλη ο Λουκάς δεν παραδίδει τέσσερα από τα θαύματα του κατά Μάρκον (6,45-52· 7,31-37· 8,1-10· 10,22-26), τα οποία ανήκουν στα λεγόμενα κενά του κατά Λουκάν (εκείνα τα σημεία της αφήγησης, όπου ο Λουκάς δεν ακολουθεί τον Μάρκο). 

Γενικά, ωστόσο, ο Λουκάς ακολουθεί πιστά τον Μάρκο και επαναλαμβάνει το μοτίβο του μυστικού του Μεσσία, αν και αυτό δεν έχει πλέον την ίδια θεολογική βαρύτητα που είχε στο Μκ. Στο Λκ ο Ιησούς παρουσιάζεται ως ο εσχατολογικός προφήτης στο πρότυπο του Ησαΐα και του Ελισσαίου ο οποίος εκπληρώνει τις προφητείες της Παλαιάς Διαθήκης. Αυτό καθίσταται σαφές στο κήρυγμα του Ιησού στη Ναζαρέτ (Λκ 4,16-21), το οποίο έχει προγραμματικό χαρακτήρα μέσα στο τρίτο ευαγγέλιο· ο Λουκάς το τοποθετεί στην αρχή της δημόσιας δράσης του Ιησού (σε αντίθεση με τον Μάρκο που το τοποθετεί αργότερα) και παραθέτει το περιεχόμενό της που δεν είναι άλλο από την προφητεία του Ησαΐα 61,1-2 και την δήλωση του Ιησού ότι τώρα αυτή βρίσκει την εκπλήρωσή της. Τα θαύματα που ακολουθούν αποτελούν την επιβεβαίωση αυτού του κηρύγματος.

Ο Ιησούς στο κατά Λουκάν πολύ συχνά συγκρίνεται με τον Ηλία και τον Ελισσαίο κι αναδεικνύεται ανώτερος από αυτούς. Οι ιστορίες τους αποτελούν το προκείμενο από το οποίο αντλούν οι αφηγήσεις του ευαγγελίου. Μία τέτοια σύγκριση βέβαια υπάρχει ήδη και στο Μκ (βλ. Μκ 1,40-45 και 6,30-44· 8,1-10), στο Λκ όμως αυτό είναι ιδιαίτερα έντονο κι αποτελεί ένα από τα κυρίαρχα χριστολογικά θέματα του ευαγγελίου (βλ., για παράδειγμα 7,11-17 και 17,11-19). 

Στο Λκ επίσης υπάρχει μία ισορροπία μεταξύ θαυμάτων και λόγων του Ιησού. Το κήρυγμα του ευαγγελίου συνιστά το κέντρο της αποστολής του Ιησούς (4,43), συχνά όμως Ο Λουκάς προτάσσει τα θαύματα του κηρύγματος ως περιεχόμενο του έργου του Ιησού (βλ. 24,19). Επιπλέον, η μαθητεία στο Λκ συνδέεται με τα θαύματα. Ενώ στους άλλους δύο συνοπτικούς ο λόγος του Ιησού είναι αρκετός για να τον ακολουθήσουν οι μαθητές τους, στο Λκ τα θαύματα είναι συχνά η αιτία που οι άνθρωποι πλησιάζουν τον Ιησού και τον ακολουθούν ως μαθητές (βλ. την περίπτωση του Λευί 5,27-32 και της Μαρίας Μαγδαληνής 8,1-3). 

Συνοψίζοντας στο Λκ τα θαύματα συνδέονται άμεσα με το χριστολογικό θέμα του Ιησού ως του προφήτη των εσχάτων κατά το πρότυπο του Ηλία και του Ελισσαίου. Ο Ιησούς με τα θαύματά του εκπληρώνει τις προφητείες της Παλαιάς Διαθήκης για τη σωτηρία του λαού του  Ισραήλ και την αποκατάσταση και ανόρθωση όσων υποφέρουν και καταπιέζονται.

Μία νέα μελέτη για το βιβλίο του Ιεζεκιήλ / A new study on Ezekiel

Από τον εκδοτικό οίκο Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht κυκλοφόρησε μία νέα μελέτη σχετικά με το φαινόμενο της προσθήκης κι επέκτασης του αρχικού κειμένου του Ιεζεκιήλ από τους αντιγραφείς του κατά την περίοδο του Δεύτερου Ναού. Πρόκειται για μία διαδικασία παραγωγής, παράδοσης και ερμηνείας του συγκεκριμένου προφητικού κειμένου κι ο συγγραφέας της νέας αυτής μελέτης, Timothy P. Mackie, συγκρίνει το μασωριτικό και ελληνικό κείμενο του Ιεζεκιήλ, προτείνει μία τυπολογία των παρεμβάσεων των γραφέων και τις σχολιάζει. 

Αυτές οι προσθήκες σύμφωνα με τον συγγραφέα, αποτυπώνουν το σεβασμό των γραφέων απέναντι στην αυθεντία του κειμένου. Δε διασώζουν μόνο το ιερό κείμενο αλλά το συμπληρώνουν προκειμένου να το καταστήσουν σαφές στις επόμενες γενιές. Ταυτόχρονα μέσα από αυτές τις παρεμβάσεις καθίσταται σαφής η τάση διαμόρφωσης μίας συλλογής κειμένων στον μεταιχμαλωσιακό Ιουδαϊσμό κι ένταξης του βιβλίου του Ιεζεκιήλ σε αυτή τη συλλογή:

Όλα τα αρχαία χειρόγραφα της Καινής Διαθήκης δεν ήταν μικρά και εύχρηστα. Κάποια από αυτά ήταν μεγάλων διαστάσεων, όπως τα δύο χειρόγραφα, η Βίβλος Stavelot (1097) και o Codex Gigas (1295) και φαίνεται πως αποτελούσαν τα κύρια λειτουργικά βιβλία των μοναστηριών από τα οποία προέρχονταν. Για τη μεταφορά του πρώτου χρειάζονταν 4 άνθρωποι ενώ για εκείνη του δευτέρου 2. Για τη συγγραφή του χρειάστηκαν ένας μοναχός κάθε φορά και περιέχουν εικονογραφήσεις ιδιαίτερα γνωστές: ο πρώτος τον Ιησού Χριστό εν δόξη κι ο δεύτερος μία μεγάλη απεικόνιση του διαβόλου (η οποία χάρισε στον κώδικα τον τίτλο Βίβλος του Διαβόλου μαζί με τον θρύλο που θέλει ο κώδικας να έχει ετοιμαστεί μέσα σε μια μέρα από έναν μοναχό με τη βοήθεια του διαβόλου):
