The Search for Early Christian Groups and Movements”.
International Colloquium: “Shadowy Characters and Fragmentary Evidence. The Search for Early Christian Groups and Movements”
Early Christianity has produced a considerable and variegated corpus of texts and documents. A number of these have been preserved only in an often very fragmented state. Others seem to be lost forever and are known only by name. Still others do not even have the status of a text, but only that of a hypothetical source, created and designed to explain a particular phenomenon. The conference will address questions of methodology in dealing with such texts and sources.
The programme includes papers by Jean-Daniel Dubois, Andrew Gregory, Judith Hartenstein, Judith Lieu, Tobias Nicklas, Christopher Tuckett, and Ismo Dunderberg.
Venue: Catholic University of Leuven, Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, St-Michielsstraat 4, B-3000 Leuven, Belgium Registration: 50 Euro
There is a limited possibility for offering a paper (25 min.) on a topic related to the overall theme of the conference. For further information and details on the conference, please contact Prof. Dr. Joseph Verheyden .
The conference is sponsored by the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO-Vl), the Frans Neirynck Foundation, and the Leuven Centre for the Study of the Gospels.
