Επαναξιολόγηση των δεδομένων για το Κουμράν / A re-assessment of the Qumran data

Στη σελίδα The Bible and Interpretation δημοσιεύονται αποσπάσματα από το πρόσφατο άρθρο του Gregory Doudna σχετικά με την χρονολόγηση των διαφόρων φάσεων ζωής της κοινότητας του Κουμράν. Ο συγγραφέας αξιολογεί τα διάφορα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα από το κτίριο και το κοιμητήριο καθώς κι από τα γύρω σπήλαια και καταλήγει στο συμπέρασμα ότι θα πρέπει να γίνει μία διάκριση μεταξύ των διαφορετικών περιόδων εγκατάστασης στην περιοχή. Η "κύρια" περίοδος εγκατάστασης θα πρέπει να τοποθετηθεί στον 1ο αι. π.Χ. Επιπλέον, χρονολογεί όλα τα χειρόγραφα του Κουμράν πριν το τ. του 1ου αι. π.Χ. ή τις αρχές του 1ου αι. μ.Χ., όταν τελικά το βιβλικό κείμενο σταθεροποιείται, μία εξέλιξη, την οποία ο Doudna συνδέει με την ανέγερση του Ναού από τον Ηρώδη:

Οι διαφορετικές εκδοχές του Ιερεμία / The different versions of the book of Jeremiah

Στην ιστοσελίδα The Bible and Interpretation έχει αναρτηθεί το σύντομο άρθρο της Shelley L. Birdsong σχετικά με τις δύο διαφορετικές εκδοχές του βιβλίου του Ιερεμία. Σχολιάζοντας την εξέλιξη που συχνά παρατηρείται στις παραδόσεις των βιβλικών κειμένων η Birdsong καταλήγει:

"The texts adapted to their different environments much like a species that evolves to survive. Contemporary interpreters can learn from this process by which sacred texts changed to meet the needs of various people throughout history. It gives us a model of how to reinterpret tradition for each new time and place. The “old” traditions were not deleted or discarded. They were not watered down or shrugged off as relative sentiments. “New” traditions were simply added to the long and polyphonic dialogue, amplifying the cacophony that continues on. So too, we are invited into the conversation, to add our own voices as we engage the texts, their history, and one another."

Λεπτομέρεια από το μωσαϊκό τύπου "ασάρωτου οίκου" που
εκτίθεται στο Μουσείο του Βατικανού.

Στο εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρον άρθρο της η Sarah Bond συζητά τα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα σχετικά με τη συνήθεια των εύπορων Ρωμαίων να εκτρέφουν μυωξούς οι οποίοι θεωρούνταν εξαιρετικός μεζές στα ρωμαϊκά δείπνα. Τα μικρά τρωκτικά εκτρέφονταν μέσα σε ειδικά αγγεία τα οποία ονομάζονταν dolia ή gliraria και τα οποία τοποθετούνταν μέσα στο έδαφος. Συνήθως τα τάιζαν με διάφορους ξηρούς καρπούς και νερό, όπως φαίνεται και στην παράσταση δίπλα. Τέτοια αγγεία βρέθηκαν σε διάφορες βίλλες της Ιταλίας, όπως, για παράδειγμα στην Πομπηία.
