Στην ιστοσελίδα The Bible and Interpretation η Barbara Meyer συζητά την στάση της έρευνας στο ζήτημα της ιουδαϊκής ταυτότητας του Ιησού. Μολονότι κατά την τρίτη φάση της έρευνας για τον ιστορικό Ιησού η θέση του μέσα στον Ιουδαϊσμό του 1ου αι. μ.Χ. αποτέλεσε αντικείμενο συζήτησης, το θέμα παραμένει αρκετά περιφερειακό εξαιτίας κυρίως της γενικής θέσης ότι ο ιστορικός Ιησούς δεν υπήρξε ένας τυπικός Ιουδαίος της εποχής του. Είναι όμως αυτό ιστορικά ακριβές ή αποτελεί μία interpretatio christiana του ιστορικού Ιησού που διευκολύνει την ταύτιση των Χριστιανών μαζί του;
