Παύλος και Πατέρες / Paul and Patristics

Στον ιστότοπο του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης φιλοξενείται η χρήσιμη βάση δεδομένων για τις  αναφορές στον Παύλο στα έργα των Πατέρων κι εκκλησιαστικών συγγραφέων πριν την Σύνοδο της Νικαίας.  Εξαιρετικά διαφωτιστικά είναι επίσης τα γραφήματα τα οποία απεικονίζουν ποια επιστολή του Παύλου και με ποια συχνότητα χρησιμοποιείται σε κάθε εκκλησιαστικό έργο ή ανά αιώνα. Να θυμίσω ότι υπάρχει ήδη μία ανάλογη βάση δεδομένων, η BiblIndex, με μεγαλύτερο χρονικό εύρος, η οποία παραπέμπει στις εκδόσεις των πατερικών έργων στην Biblia Patristica και στην SC:

Ρωμαίους 13 και αμερικανική πολιτική / Romans 13 and American politics

H σύνδεση ιδεολογίας και ερμηνείας βρίσκεται στην καρδιά του ζητήματος που προέκυψε στις ΗΠΑ μετά την χρήση από τον Γενικό Εισαγγελέα της χώρας του Ρωμ 13 προκειμένου να δικαιολογήσει την μεταναστευτική πολιτική της κυβέρνησης Trump. Το συγκεκριμένο κεφάλαιο κι όσα γράφει εκεί ο Παύλος για την σχέση των χριστιανών με την πολιτική εξουσία έχουν συχνά αποτελέσει αντικείμενο συζήτησης μεταξύ των ερμηνευτών. Η ιστορία πρόσληψης του Ρωμ 13 είναι μεγάλη κι ενδιαφέρουσα. Ειδικά στην περίπτωση της Αμερικής το κείμενο συχνά χρησιμοποιήθηκε από όσους προέτρεπαν σε πίστη στην Αγγλία και τον Βασιλιά αλλά κι από κείνους στο αντίθετο στρατόπεδο που ξεκινούσαν τον αγώνα της ανεξαρτησίας. Ταυτόχρονα το ίδιο κείμενο επιστρατεύθηκε συχνά για τη νομιμοποίηση της δουλείας στην ίδια ήπειρο. Η νέα αξιοποίησή του στον πολιτικό λόγο των ΗΠΑ κι η αντίδραση που προκάλεσε τόσο από εκκλησιαστικούς κύκλους όσο κυρίως από βιβλικούς συναδέλφους εκεί, αναδεικνύει μία σειρά από σημαντικά ζητήματα: ποια μπορούν αν είναι τα όρια της ερμηνείας, όταν το ίδιο το κείμενο φαίνεται να επιτρέπει περισσότερες από μία ερμηνείες, πόσο μπορεί το βιβλικό κείμενο να αξιοποιείται για να αιτιολογήσει κοσμικές (ή άλλες) δομές αιώνες μάλιστα μετά από την εποχή που αυτό γράφηκε, ποιος είναι ο ρόλος που μπορεί να διαδραματίσει η κριτική βιβλική εξήγηση ως παράγοντας αντίστασης στον λαϊκισμό και την εργαλειοποίηση της Βίβλου;
