Ένα λιμάνι του Χέοπα / A harbour of Cheops

Αρχαιολόγοι δύτες εντόπισαν στις ακτές του Wadi el-Jarf μέρος του λιμανιού, το οποίο σύμφωνα με παπύρους που είχαν βρεθεί παλαιότερα κατασκευάστηκε από τον Χέοπα (στα αιγυπτιακά Khufu) ως τόπο εισαγωγής υλικών για την ανέγερση της πυραμίδας του. Σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα της Haaretz το λιμάνι που χρονολογείται στην εποχή του μεγάλου αυτού Φαραώ (2580-2550 π.Χ.) φαίνεται πως εισήγαγε χαλκό και σίδηρο για την κατασκευή εργαλείων για τους εργάτες της πυραμίδας. Ειδικότερα, οι αρχαιολόγοι εντόπισαν προκυμαία και κυματοθραύστη μήκους 200 μ. πολυάριθμες άγκυρες από ασβεστόλιθο, αγγεία αποθήκευσης αγαθών και ίχνη διοικητικών κτιρίων του λιμανιού. Η περιοχή είχε ήδη προκαλέσει το ενδιαφέρον των ερευνητών καθώς σε γαλαρίες σκαμμένες σε γειτονικό λόφο βρέθηκαν πάπυροι που παρέχουν χρήσιμες πληροφορίες για την εμπορική ζωή του λιμανιού. Στις γαλαρίες βρέθηκαν επίσης αγγεία που φέρουν επιγραφές με τους γεωγραφικούς προορισμούς των αγαθών που κάποτε περιείχαν. Σύμφωνα με τους αρχαιολόγους είναι πιθανό στις γαλαρίες να κατασκευάζονταν βάρκες. Τέλος, το λιμάνι αυτό αντικαταστάθηκε από εκείνο στο Ayn Sukhna στα χρόνια του διαδόχου του Χέοπα.
