Dennis Edwin Smith (1.12.1944-16.9.2017)

Έφυγε χτες από τη ζωή νικημένος από τον καρκίνο ο γνωστός καθηγητής της Καινής Διαθήκης στο Phillips Theological Seminary, Dennis Edwin Smith. O εκλιπών, διδάκτορας του Harvard University Divinity School, διετέλεσε καθηγητής στο Phillips Theological Seminary, από το 1986 έως και το 2015, όταν συνταξιοδοτήθηκε. 

Η συμβολή του στη μελέτη των ευχαριστιακών δείπνων της αρχαίας Εκκλησίας είναι σημαντική και χωρίς αμφιβολία άλλαξε τον τρόπο με τον οποίο κατανοούσε το ρόλο τους η έρευνα μέχρι τώρα. Από το πλούσιο συγγραφικό του έργο αναφέρω εδώ ενδεικτικά τα From Symposium to Eucharist: The Banquet in the Early Christian World (2003), Many Tables: The Eucharist in the New Testament and Liturgy Today (1990), σε συνεργασία με τον Hal Taussig, Meals in the Early Christian World: Social Formation, Experimentation, and Conflict at the Table, και πάλι σε συνεργασία με τον Hal Taussig (2012). 

Ένας εξαιρετικός ερευνητής κι ένας υπέροχος άνθρωπος. Ας είναι αιωνία η μνήμη του. 

Οι αρχαίοι χριστιανοί ως φιλόσοφοι / Ancient Christians as philosophers

Σε συνεργασία με την International Catacomb Society η ιστοσελίδα Ancient Bible Review θα φιλοξενήσει μία σειρά άρθρων σχετικά με την αρχαία Εκκλησία. Το πρώτο άρθρο είναι του Arthur Urbano κι είναι αφιερωμένο στην παράσταση των αρχαίων χριστιανών ως φιλοσόφων σε σαρκοφάγους και τοιχογραφίες της Ύστερης Αρχαιότητας:
