Στις 4 Ιουνίου απεβίωsε ο γνωστός καινοδιαθηκολόγος Ιησουΐτης ιερέας και καθηγητής του Catholic University of America Francis Gignac. Έγινε διδάκτορας το 1964 στο πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης με την εργασία "The Language of the Post-Christian Greek Papyri". Στα 1968 του απονεμήθηκε η L.S.T. από την Σχολή Ιησουϊτών στον Σικάγο με την εργασία "Semitic Interference in New Testament Greek". Δίδαξε στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Fordham και Union Theological Seminary και από το 1974 στο Catholic University of America. Διεύθυνε το πρόγραμμα Βιβλικών Σπουδών από το 1976 έως και το 2012. Υπήρξε συγγραφέας πολλών μελετών σχετικά με τη γλώσσα της Καινής Διαθήκης, μιας πολύτομης γραμματικής των ελληνικών παπύρων της ελληνορωμαϊκής περιόδου και μίας εισαγωγής στη μελέτη της γλώσσας της Καινής Διαθήκης.
