Απεβίωσε ο καθηγητής της Βίβλου και των Χριστιανικών Σπουδών στο Chapman University Marvin Meyer. O Meyer ήταν γνωστός για τις εκδόσεις γνωστικών και μαγικών κειμένων, για τις μελέτες του σχετικά με τις θρησκείες του ελληνορωμαϊκού κόσμου και τις συνεντεύξεις του σε πολλά ντοκυμαντέρ των ΒΒC, ABC, CNN, History Channel κ.ά.

Η επιστολή του αγίου Ιακώβου ορθά χαρακτηρίστηκε ως σοβαρή αφυπνιστική κραυγή που απευθύνεται προς τους χριστιανούς όλων των εποχών. Δεν αποτελεί απλή παράθεση χρήσιμων ηθικοπρακτικών συμβουλών ούτε έχει τον πεζό χαρακτήρα της χρηστομάθειας, αλλά είναι μάλλον μια ζωντανή, από πηγαία πίστη και ελπίδα στον Ιησού Χριστό, αντιμετώπιση επειγόντων ηθικών και κοινωνικών προβλημάτων των πρώτων χριστιανικών κοινοτήτων. Οι περιστάσεις που έδωσαν αφορμή στον άγιο Ιάκωβο να αντιμετωπίσει, από την άποψη της χριστιανικής πίστης, προβλήματα που προέκυψαν στη σχέση της χριστιανικής κοινότητας με το κοινωνικό της περιβάλλον καθιστούν την βαθύτερη μελέτη της επιστολής επίκαιρη και ενδιαφέρουσα. Η ακριβής ανάλυση του περιεχομένου της και η ορθή ερμηνεία των επιμέρους θεμάτων της θα μπορούσε να πλουτίσει τις γνώσεις μας για τον πρώτο χριστιανισμό.
Εξάλλου, η πραγμάτευση στην επιστολή θεμάτων όπως η πίστη και το Ευχέλαιο αυξάνει ακόμη περισσότερο το ενδιαφέρον που παρουσιάζει για τον μελετητή. Πέρα απ' όλα αυτά, μέσα από κάθε στίχο της επιστολής, ο λόγος του Θεού μιλά προς τον μεν αμαρτωλό άνθρωπο θέτοντάς τον υπό την κρίση του Θεού, προς τον δε μετανοούντα ενσταλάζοντάς του την παράκληση και την ελπίδα της λύτρωσης.
