Early Christianity’s sacrificial concepts draw on the cult of Second Temple Judaism. They reference the temple as „place of atonement “ and sacrificial blood as its means, which happens through the purging of sin. The term „sacrifice“ evokes through the burning rite on the main altar, aspects of being pleasing and the desire for proximity to God. These ideas were applied to elucidate a referent that was hard to comprehend, namely how the mission of Jesus and his death on the cross might convey salvation.
