Mία νέα επιγραφή για έναν νέο διοικητή της Ιουδαίας / A new inscription for an unknown governor of Judea

Στην ηλεκτρονική έκδοση της εφημερίδας Haaretz δημοσίευεται το άρθρο του Philippe Bohstrom σχετικά με μία πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα ανακάλυψη. Πρόκειται για μία ενεπίγραφη βάση αγάλματος που στη θάλασσα ανοικτά της Tel Dor. Σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα η ελληνική επιγραφή που φέρει το μνημείο κάνει λόγο για τον  Gargilius Antiquus, ο οποίος πρέπει να διετέλεσε διοικητής της Ιουδαίας λίγο πριν την επανάσταση του Bar Kochba (κάπου μεταξύ του 120-130 μ.Χ.). Πολύ πιθανόν, μάλιστα, η βάση να στήριζε ένα άγαλμα του διοικητή, οποίος στην επιγραφή χαρακτηρίζεται ως πάτρονας της πόλης. Παλαιότερα, στα 1948 είχε βρεθεί μία ακόμη επιγραφή στην Dor, όπου και πάλι αναφερόταν το όνομα του Gargilius Antiquus, ως διοικητή της Συρίας και Παλαιστίνης. Η νέα επιγραφή προσθέτει ένα ακόμη στοιχείο στην καριέρα αυτού του Ρωμαίου αξιωματούχου. Ο Gargilius Antiquus, γνωστός από άλλες πηγές, καταγόταν από την Β. Αφρική και προερχόταν από τις τάξεις των ιππέων. Ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του σε άλλες επαρχίες μεταξύ των οποίων και την Αραβία στα χρόνια του Τραϊανού. 

Η νέα επιγραφή εκτίθεται στη βιβλιοθήκη του Πανεπιστημίου της Haifa.
