Η έννοια της Βασιλείας του Θεού κι η χρήση της μέσα στην Καινή Διαθήκη έχει προκαλέσει έντονες συζητήσεις μεταξύ των ερευνητών. Ποια είναι η σχέση της με την πρώιμη ιουδαϊκή αποκαλυπτική; Πρέπει να κατανοηθεί δυναμικά, με την έννοια, δηλαδή, ότι είναι ήδη παρούσα κι ενεργητική ή περισσότερο με την έννοια ότι πρόκειται για έναν χώρο ή μια εποχή σωτηρίας; Πρόκειται για έννοια που αφορά το παρόν ή το μέλλον; Μπορεί να πραγματωθεί μόνο από τον Θεό ή κι από τους ανθρώπους; Ποια είναι η σχέση της Βασιλείας του Θεού με το υπόλοιπο κήρυγμα του Ιησού, το μεσσιανικό του έργο, τον σταυρικό θάνατό του και την ανάστασή του; Γιατί στην υπόλοιπη Καινή Διαθήκη αυτό το θέμα διαδραματίζει έναν περιφεριακό ρόλο; Η καινοδιαθηκική έρευνα κι η θεολογία του 20ου αι. γενικά υποστήριξαν τη δυναμική-παροντική κατανόηση αυτής της έννοιας, ως το ήδη παρόν βασίλειο του Θεού σε συνέχεια προς την αποκαλυπτική παράδοση.  Ως κύριες αποδείξεις για αυτό προβάλλονται τα Μτ 2:28/Λκ 11:20 και Λκ 17:21. Ο συγγραφέας της μελέτης αμφισβητεί αυτήν την θέση. Υποστηρίζει μία περισσότερο μελλοντικά προσανατολισμένη κατανόηση, με την έννοια ενός ερχόμενου χώρου σωτηρίας, μίας μελλοντικής εποχής σωτηρίας και της δωρεάς στο παρόν της "αιώνιας ζωής".
