Σε αυτόν τον τόμο παρουσιάζονται νέες προοπτικές των αρχαίων κειμένων που ανακαλύφθηκαν στο Κουμράν. Ειδικότερα στις μελέτες του τόμου προσφέρονται νέες προσεγγίσεις σε συγκεκριμένα κείμενα και φιλολογικά είδη εφαρμόζοντας μεθόδους και θεωρίες που αντλούνται από επιστημονικούς κλάδους που δε συνδέονται άμεσα με τη μελέτη των κειμένων της Ν. Θάλασσας και μέσα από τη διερεύνηση νέων καθώς και παλαιών ζητημάτων που προκύπτουν από τη μελέτη αυτών των κειμένων. Τα θέματα που αποτελούν αντικείμενο μελέτης είναι μεταξύ άλλων η ταυτότητα της ομάδας, η μνήμη, η θεωρία της τελετουργίας, η κοινωνιολογία της σέκτας, η φιλοσοφία της εκπαίδευσης, η λειτουργική ανθρωπολογία, ο ιουδαϊκός Νόμος, η ιστορία της θρησκείας και ο μυστικισμός. Οι μελέτες του παρόντος τόμου παρουσιάστηκαν για πρώτη φορά κατά το 10ο ετήσιο συμπόσιο Orion το 2005 με διοργανωτή το Orion Center for the Study of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Associated Literature στο Εβραϊκό πανεπιστήμιο στην Ιερουσαλήμ.
