Στην ιστοσελίδα The Bible and Interpretation οι Ben-Zion Rosenfeld και Haim Perlmutter συζητούν το κοινωνικό προφίλ της Γαλιλαίας του 1ου αι. μ.Χ. κι υποστηρίζουν ότι ο Ιησούς κι η πρώτη ομάδα που τον ακολούθησε προέρχεται από μία μάλλον μεσαία κοινωνική ομάδα. Οι συγγραφείς στηρίζονται κυρίως στα ραββινικά κείμενα. Μολονότι αυτά είναι μια σημαντική πηγή, έχω κάποιες επιφυλάξεις κατά πόσο μπορούν να μας δώσουν ασφαλείς πληροφορίες για την κοινωνία της εποχής του Ιησού:

Kυκλοφόρησε από το εκδοτικό οίκο Peeters ένας νέος συλλογικός τόμος με θέμα την έννοια του δικαίου ανθρώπου, όπως αυτή παρουσιάζεται κυρίως στα κείμενα της Καινής Διαθήκης. Από τις μελέτες που φιλοξενούνται στον τόμο προκύπτει ότι η έννοια του δικαίου εξαρτάται πάνω από τη συνάφεια μέσα στην οποία απαντά στα βιβλικά κείμενα. Συνδέεται άμεσα με την προσδοκία της θείας δικαιοσύνης και σωτηρίας και μπορείτε να χαρακτηρίζει μεμονωμένα πρόσωπα (ο Ιησούς ως ο διδάσκαλος της δικαιοσύνης) αλλά και συλλογικότητες. Ο δίκαιος έρχεται σε σύγκρουση με το κοινωνικό και πολιτικό περιβάλλον του και συχνά καθίσταται η τραγική εκείνη μορφή που εμπνέει τις επόμενες γενιές:
