Το κρανίο κι η σιαγόνα που αποδίδονται στον Πλίνιο τον

Ένα κρανίο που βρέθηκε πριν ένα περίπου αιώνα κοντά στην Πομπηία αποδόθηκε από τον άνθρωπο που το βρήκε, τον  Gennaro Matrone, στον Πλίνιο τον Πρεσβύτερο, ο οποίος πέθανε στην προσπάθειά του να διασώσει τους κατοίκους της Πομπηίας. Η υπόθεση του Matrone πέρασε στα "αζήτητα" της αρχαιολογίας, μία ομάδα ειδικών, ωστόσο, πρόσφατα την επανέφεραν στο επίκεντρο των συζητήσεων υποβάλλοντας το κρανίο και τη σιαγόνα που το συνόδευε σε χημικές αναλύσεις. Τα αποτελέσματα οδηγούν στο συμπέρασμα ότι η σιαγόνα προέρχεται από άλλον σκελετό, το κρανίο όμως είναι πολύ πιθανό να μπορεί να αποδοθεί στον Πλίνιο:

Εντυπωσιακά ευρήματα στη Σαντορίνη / Spectacular findings in Santorini

Οι αρχαιολόγοι έφεραν στο φως σημαντικά ευρήματα που συνδέονται με την καθημερινή ζωή των ανθρώπων του νησιού πριν την καταστροφή από το ηφαίστειο. Τα ευρήματα προέρχονται από τη λεγόμενη "Οικία των Θρανίων". Μεταξύ των ευρημάτων αναφέρονται μία επιγραφή σε Γραμμική Α, σκεύη, εργαλεία και ένα εδώλιο:

"Σαντορίνη: Μοναδικά ευρήματα από την προϊστορική πόλη του Ακρωτηρίου"
"Impressive findings from the prehistoric town of Akrotiri Thira"
