Στην ιστοσελίδα Phys.org παρουσιάζονται τα πορίσματα της πρόσφατης έρευνας του Alessandro Pierattini (Πανεπιστήμιο της Notre Dame, ΗΠΑ) σχετικά με τα τεχνολογικά μέσα που ανέπτυξαν οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες για την κατασκευή τειχών και κτιρίων. Ο Pierattini υποστηρίζει ότι τα στοιχεία που συνέλεξε κατά τη μελέτη του οδηγούν στη διαπίστωση ότι οι πρώτοι γερανοί για την ανοικοδόμηση τέτοιων δημόσιων κτισμάτων εμφανίζονται στην αρχαία Ελλάδα ήδη κατά το 700 με 650 π.Χ.
