Fergus Millar (5.7.1935-15.7.2019)

O εκλιπών διετέλεσε εκδότης του περιοδικού Journal of Roman Studies και πρόεδρος της British Classical Association καθώς και μέλος της Βρετανικής Ακαδημίας. Οι μελέτες του με θέμα τη ρωμαϊκή αυτοκρατορία συνέβαλαν ουσιαστικά στη μελέτη των ρωμαϊκών χρόνων και της σχέσης Ρώμης και Ελλάδας.

Ο αρχαιότερος χριστιανικός πάπυρος / The oldest Christian papyrus

The papyrus P.Bas. 2.43 has been in the possession of the University of Basel for over 100 years. The letter has been dated to the 230s AD and is thus older than all previously known Christian documentary evidence from Roman Egypt. (Photo/detail: University of Basel)

Διαβάστε στην ιστοσελίδα του Πανεπιστημίου της Βασιλείας για τον αρχαιότερο χριστιανικό πάπυρο, ο οποίος φυλάσσεται στη βιβλιοθήκη του Πανεπιστημίου. Πρόκειται για τον P.Bas. 16, μία ιδιωτική επιστολή κάποιου Αρριανού προς τον αδελφό του Παύλο. Η επιστολή κλείνει με την ευχή "ἐρρῶσθαί | σε εὔχομαι ὁλοκλή|[ρω]ς ἐν κ(υρί)ῳ" με την λέξη κύριος ως nomen sacrum. O πάπυρος χρονολογείται στη δεκαετία του 230 μ.Χ. κι είναι κατά 40-50 χρόνια αρχαιότερος από τους υπόλοιπους χριστιανικούς παπύρους.
