Ένας εντυπωσιακός τάφος από την αρχαία Καπιτωλιάδα / An impressive tomb from ancient Capitolias

Mία εντυπωσιακή ανακάλυψη από την αρχαία Καπιτωλιάδα (στο σημερινό χωριό Beit Ras) κάνει το γύρο του διαδικτύου αυτές τις μέρες. Πρόκειται για έναν τάφο της ρωμαϊκής περιόδου (τα παλαιότερα δημοσιεύματα τον τοποθετούν στην Ύστερη Αρχαιότητα ή πρώιμη Βυζαντινή περίοδο, τα νεότερα κάνουν λόγο για το τέλος του 1ου - αρχές του 2ου αι. μ.Χ.), ο οποίος βρέθηκε κατά την κατασκευή του αποχετευτικού συστήματος ενός σχολείου στην περιοχή. Ο τάφος, 52 τ.μ., είναι δίχωρος, σε πολύ καλή κατάσταση, αν και λεηλατήθηκε κατά την αρχαιότητα. Στο ένα από τα δύο δωμάτια βρέθηκε σαρκοφάγος από βασάλτη με διακόσμηση δυο κεφαλών λεόντων. 

Το εντυπωσιακό όμως αυτού του τάφου είναι οι πολύχρωμες τοιχογραφίες του με παραστάσεις από την αγροτική ζωή, εικόνες από την ανοικοδόμηση κτιρίων, θυσιαστικό γεύμα με συνδαιτυμόνες διάφορες θεότητες. Περισσότερες από 260 μορφές απεικονίζονται στους τοίχους αυτού του κτίσματος. Σύμφωνα με τις εκτιμήσεις των αρχαιολόγων οι παραστάσεις καταγράφουν διαφορετικές φάσεις της ίδρυσης της αρχαίας Καπιτωλιάδος (με τελική σκηνή τη θυσία στους πολιούχους θεούς), η οποία ήταν αφιερωμένη στον Jupiter Capitolinus. Σύμφωνα με την εκτίμηση του Pierre-Louis Gatier (History and Sources of the Ancient World lab, Lyon, Γαλλία) ίσως ο νεκρός που φιλοξενείται σε αυτόν τον τάφο να συνδέεται με την ίδρυση της πόλης ή είναι ο ιδρυτής της. Αυτό φυσικά αναμένεται να αποδειχθεί από επιπλέον ευρήματα που οι αρχαιολόγοι ελπίζουν να βρουν στο μέλλον.

Ένα ιδιαίτερα ενδιαφέρον στοιχείο είναι οι επιγραφές που συνοδεύουν τις διάφορες παραστάσεις κι οι οποίες αποτυπώνουν στιγμές της συζήτησης μεταξύ των αναπαριστώμενων μορφών. Γραμμένες με ελληνικούς χαρακτήρες οι φράσεις είναι στα αραμαϊκά και δίνουν σημαντικές πληροφορίες για την πολιτισμική ατμόσφαιρα στην περιοχή της Δεκαπόλεως κατά τα τ. 1ου αι., την γλωσσική και την εθνική ταυτότητα των κατοίκων της:
